Jumeirah clinic bringing a psychology-first approach to children’s dental care in
Dubai.
Founded by Specialist Pediatric Dentist Dr. Yasmin Kottait, Sunshine Land has been
purpose-built around a simple but powerful idea: children should feel understood,
safe and comfortable before treatment even begins. Rather than adapting a
traditional clinical setting for younger patients, every part of the clinic has been
designed through the eyes of a child, including those who experience dental anxiety,
sensory sensitivities, or need additional support during treatment.
We loved this brief the moment we heard it. At its heart, Sunshine Land is four
themed treatment rooms – Bon-Bon, Katty, Rory and Coco – alongside a dedicated
sensory room created specifically for children of determination and those with
sensory sensitivities. The characters aren’t just a nice design touch either; each one
helps children understand and remember the four foundations of a healthy mouth:
brushing twice a day, flossing daily, attending regular dental visits, and making
healthy food choices. Turning dental education into stories children can actually
relate to is exactly the kind of thoughtful, human-first thinking we love getting behind.
Dr. Yasmin brings more than 20 years of experience, a background in psychology,
and an international lecturing presence spanning the UAE, US, UK, Egypt, Oman
and Bahrain. Sunshine Land is the third clinic she has built from the ground up, and
her own experience as a mother of a toddler and two step-teenagers clearly runs
through every decision behind it.
“I built this as a dentist, but I understand it as a mother,” says Dr. Yasmin. “I know
firsthand how scary dentistry can be for little ones, for parents standing beside them,
and especially for families navigating special needs. Kids don’t come with a manual,
and neither does getting them through a dental visit without tears. We get it, we work
on it, and we keep evolving to be the best versions of ourselves, because that’s what
makes all of this possible for the families who walk through our door.”
