Is your closet collecting dust whilst your loungewear has become your OOTD? Has your make-up seen the light of day or is it lying in your drawers as you embrace the more “natural” look? Due to Covid-19 and lockdown, there is less of a desire for women to go all-out glam or dress up as they once used to.
Ladies let’s be honest, wearing a face mask is frustrating when we have make-up on; it smudges our lipstick and foundation, so that’s why we would rather be bare-faced! What’s more, people are trying to cut costs due to salary cuts and job losses, which means that make-up and beauty products are the last thing on their minds. This is all having a negative effect on the beauty industry globally and we are noticing a drop in sales as well as a crippling hit on certain companies with not a week going by when we hear of massive cuts or closures in some of our favourite beauty companies.
Recently Becca Cosmetics, the well renowned Australian company founded by Rebecca Morrice Williams in 2001, announced the devastating news that it is closing after 20 years. They posted the following statement on their website and socials: “At Becca, an accumulation of challenges, together with the global impact of Covid-19, has sadly been more than our business can withstand, and we have had to make the heart-breaking decision to close down the Becca brand at the end of September 2021.”
It is beyond sad to us to hear that global brands as well as small businesses are facing the terrible effects of Covid-19, so whilst we know your tastes and requirements may be a litte different now, but please let’s show your support in any way you can by stocking up on your favourite products or updating your make-up looks with new and favourite brands. Regardless of a global pandemic taking over the world, in the wise words of Beyonce, “Who run the world? Girls!” And as women we love to feel good and pamper ourselves, therefore although things haven’t been great for everyone worldwide in the past year, the future of beauty stays positive and it will continue to be a popular industry in one way or another with our support.
