Isn’t it the best feeling in the world when you finally find your perfect foundation shade after years of searching and mix-&-match foundations?
The beauty industry, like many other industries in the world, is an ever-changing environment that doesn’t stop for anyone. But thankfully, it has improved for the better with time. Traditionally, the beauty industry was always targeted exclusively towards western women, with little to no inclusivity for different skin tones or cultures. However, with the development of media, the industry evolved little by little and welcomed the diversity of people till we reached the more inclusive beauty industry that we have today. Here’s some examples of how the beauty industry became an all-inclusive industry…
Let’s Talk Shades!
The beauty industry is huge, and with the rise of social media, more and more people are getting comfortable using beauty products, with demographics from all over the world!
But a problem that used to often come up was the shade range in beauty products. As humans, we’re all different in many aspects, and shades are one of them. Your skin colour can be the exact same as the next person, but your undertone is what determines your perfect foundation shade, and not many beauty brands considered that previously when developing shade ranges. Therefore, it’s so inspiring when you see brands like Fenty by Rihanna create a 40+ foundation shade-ranges with a highly inclusive spectrum of shades. From pale to melanin-rich skin, Fenty has it all.
In another aspect of inclusivity, hijab-wearing women have groundbreakingly entered the beauty industry with their amazing talent and skills. However, hijabis have always faced a problem, which is that makeup always stains their hijabs when getting their makeup professionally done or even when filming a beauty tutorial. But with the rise of beauty bloggers in social media, hijabi beauty bloggers endured it with different creative ways to avoid getting their hijabs stained, until the ModBeautyKeeper was introduced. Developed by Nandi Barker, the ModBeautyKeeper is a beauty tool that help hijab-wearing beauty enthusiasts everywhere apply perfect makeup without having to stain their hijabs!
Gender-Neutral Beauty is the Future
What’s normal nowadays isn’t what it used to be. We reached a point in time where every beauty-lover is welcome in the beauty industry because beauty is non-binary. Whether it was skincare or makeup, there is always space for everyone in the industry. Makeup is an art, and many men have mastered it and have created beautiful looks ever since they were introduced to the world of Beauty. It’s so nice to see beauty brands around the world develop into gender-neutral brands that cater to both Men and Women, such as Make Up Forever’s Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation Collection that featured both genders.
We can’t say for sure what will come next, but we are excited to see where the beaty industry is in 5 and 10 year’s time and we hope to continue to be part of it!
