It’s only September, but before we know it the festive season will creep up on us. We will want to enjoy all the lavish meals and treats that come with it. Whether the delectable sweets for Diwali or the Christmas Turkey, we all love to indulge in traditions. We’ve got some tricks to help you stay healthy, so you look like a million bucks in your outfits for the season.
Greens: Have a bowl of greens before lunch and dinner. This will help you fill up on some fiber and help you with a clean digestive system. Also, you will end up being full, and won’t hit on the bread basket at the restaurant.
Mid meal snacks: Make sure you plan your day ahead and carry fruit for mid meal snacks with you when you are out and about. Stay full and avoid snacking on chips and chocolates to satisfy the crunch hunger.
Control carbohydrates: Make sure you have controlled portions of carbohydrates in your meals, these include wheat, oats, millets, potatoes, legumes and rice. Make sure you are shuffling the carbohydrate you eat during the week too, so your body doesn’t get used to it.
Portion control: This is very important. Make sure you control what and how much you eat. Your plate should have about 1/4th part of carbohydrates, ½ part veggies and the balance 1/4th of your part should include a protein. Serve yourself before you sit down to eat so you are not tempted to overeat.
Stay Active: At least 30 mins of activity; a walk or a dance class – anything to keep you moving is important. This will also help you in the long run, as it develops bone strength. Weight bearing exercises such us yoga, tai chi and even walking, help the body resist gravity, and build your core strength for better posture, and stimulate bone cells to grow.
And most importantly
Water: Stay hydrated. This is so important especially in the UAE heat. Running around all day or sitting in air conditioning can make your body and skin dehydrated. Keep sipping on water all day to stay healthy and feel energetic. As per Harvard Health you should drink about 2-3 cups of water an hour.
These tips can help you feel good and confident!
