Dubai, is home to more salons and spas than we’ve ever seen anywhere before – right?! So, choosing one to try can be a near-impossible task. With the overwhelming number of salons, it’s more important than ever to stand out from the competition, so we’ve put together some digital marketing tips for you to try to help you along the way. 1 – Make sure your online game is strong!
These days your online marketing game has to be strong. Your potential customers will go to your website, Facebook or Instagram to see your most recent work, so ensure your photography and content is a great showcase for your work to help get new clients in the door.
Content really is king (or Queen as we liked to say, we’re female-focused after all!), so make sure you invest in it. Post regularly and post good quality content to showcase your experience. There are some great social media content management tools including Buffer,
Hootsuite and Planoly, so consider scheduling content to ensure it is posted regularly and to help make your daily and weekly to-do lists easier.
Here are just a few ideas of content that we have found perform well for our salon and spa clients:
- Before and after images of clients
- Interior photos of the salon or spa
- Behind the scenes – carefully curated of course! Instastories is a great space for these
- Photos of your team – the human element always works well
- Products and insider tips on how to use
- Quick tutorials and how-tos – how to blow dry your own hair etc.
Don’t forget your relevant and local hashtags too on all your posts as consumers use hashtags to find new salons and spas.
2 – Be consistent with your brand
Brands are built over time and not overnight and this requires a lot of work and attention to detail. What are you saying about your brand? Is it consistent? Does it reflect how you want your business to be seen? From your business name, logo, and tagline to your products and services, consistency is key. Be strategic about how you represent your business in all aspects from the moment your customers meet your business online to the moment they walk through your door. Think about YOUR BRAND in everything you do.
3 – Remember to spend online
If you’ve not spent anything online before, now is the time to give it a go. You don’t have to spend lots, but in this day and age, you really need to be spending some money online, be it on SEO, Google or Paid Social.
To start out, try social media advertising and run Facebook and Instagram ads with location-specific (and demographic) targeting as a good way to get your salon in front of local consumers who may never have heard of you or who may be on the fence about trying you. Trial and error some discounts or offer and you’ll give yourself an even greater chance of bringing in some new customers too.
4 – Get more reviews
Potential customers want to see how your current and previous customers felt about their experience with you, so your online reputation is crucial and can be a major deciding factor for consumers looking for a new spa or salon. Finding a new hair stylist, waxing lady or facialist can be intimidating, but reading positive reviews and feedback can do a lot to put your mind at ease. Research showed that over 50% of people would click on a business in the local search results if it had positive reviews, and yes even if it’s not the top result.
Ask your happy customers to leave feedback on your services, be it a Google review or on your social media page, and make sure you have a regular stream of new positive reviews coming to build up your star rating. You can even have iPads set up ready to review on check out making it even easier for customers to say lovely things.
Expert tip – ask customers if they can mention specific services in their reviews as these key words will help your local search marketing too.
5 – Invest in SEO/local search marketing
The salon and spa industry is competitive, so you need to make sure you have a good online presence. This comprises of many things but invests in SEO and whilst it doesn’t work overnight, bear with it and it will bring results.
Expert tip – List pricing and services on your website, you’ll give those browsing consumers a good idea of how much they are going to pay, and that content can help your local search ranking too.
