The PR world can be scary, especially if not familiar with the ins and outs. Here are some tips & tricks to keep handy while stepping into the world of public relations.

Thinking of a career change or wondering what skills you need to get into Public Relations? The PR industry is creative, challenging, and ever-so-changing so it’s best to be prepared in advance. Here are five lessons from the PR girls at TishTash that will help you nail the job as well as keep it!

1. Get Out There

Don’t be scared to throw yourself out there. Someone you meet at a Mommy & Me event could potentially become your next client, and someone you meet in a group outing with friends could be the next Mega influencer. Meeting people in the PR world is very important, so show your outgoing side as it creates lasting relationships that you can utilize later on in your career.

2. Be Confident

Nothing reminds people of someone more than their ability to speak their mind and do it strongly. The good thing about confidence is that you can fake it till you make it, and no one will ever know! The truth is, going in confident is the only way to make an impact. Know what you want and go out and get it, and that’s going to help you stand out.

3. Be Humble & Kind

Being humble and kind is a trait that will help a PR person greatly and something we place great importance on at TishTash. People generally like talking to others who are down to earth and kind to them, and so does the media. As a PR professional, it’s important to incorporate kindness in your everyday life in order to create and maintain meaningful relationships with media, clients, and PR professionals around you.

4. Love what you do

A concept not unknown, if you love what you do, you are more likely to do a good job at it. This is especially important in PR, which is an extremely challenging career with crazy deadlines, manic clients, and back-to-back events! Therefore, if you really want to stand out, make sure you go all in and show off your passion, as it’ll help you get amazing results and inspire those around you.

5. Understand Different Cultures

In PR, we tend to deal with a wide array of different cultures on a day-to-day basis, especially in a region such as the Middle East, whether it’s clients, media, or influencers. Living in such a multicultural world can be tricky as one should always be conscious of culturally sensitive topics. Try to learn as much as you can from all the different cultures around you, and keep a neutral open mind in order to be on the good side of all.
